Will This Fit Your Machine?

You need 17 to 30 GPM. GPM means gallons per minute — how much hydraulic fluid your machine can push. This is the standard-flow version, on purpose: most machines run standard flow, but most brush cutter listings quietly assume you have the stronger "high flow" kind.

Check your machine

• Bobcat T740 — makes 23 GPM standard. Yes, it fits.
• Kubota SVL75-3 — makes 19.2 GPM standard. Yes, it fits.
• CAT 259D3 — makes 20.0 GPM standard. Yes, it fits.
• Bobcat T740 on high flow — makes 30.5 GPM. That is above this cutter's range. See below.

Too much flow is also a failure

Most sites warn you about not having enough flow. Almost nobody warns you about having too much.

If your machine pushes more than 30 GPM, you will overspeed this motor, heat up the oil, and wear the motor out early — and it will not fail loudly enough for you to catch it in time. If your machine is set to high flow, switch it to standard-flow mode, or tell us and we will quote you the high-flow model instead. Same cutter deck, different motor inside.

Telling Standard From High Flow In The Cab

Most machines with a high-flow option have a switch or button in the cab — often on the joystick or a side panel — labeled "high flow," plus a decal near the auxiliary couplers. High-flow machines also tend to run bigger couplers (often 3/4 in versus 1/2 in for standard flow) and usually add a third, smaller coupler for a case drain line. No switch and no extra coupler generally means standard flow only.

Case drain

Not required on this one. A case drain is an extra hydraulic line some motors need to send leftover oil back safely. This cutter uses a gear motor, which sends oil back through the normal lines, so it does not need one. (The high-flow version of this cutter uses a different kind of motor, called a piston motor, and that one does need a case drain — same idea, different attachment.)

What it will actually cut

Grass, brush, and small trees up to about 3 inches thick. Anything bigger than that needs a mulcher instead — see that product page for the honest version of that conversation.

Three inches is about the width of a baseball. Hold one up next to a branch if you are not sure — anything noticeably thicker than that belongs to a mulcher, not this cutter.

Do not buy this one if

• You are clearing trees 4 inches thick or more. You will bog the machine down and blame the cutter. Get a mulcher, or rent one.
• Your machine makes less than 17 GPM. It will turn weakly and stall in anything real.
• You want a finished lawn look. This cuts rough. It leaves a cleared field, not a mowed yard.
