Attachments for a Bobcat T740

Bobcat T740 — 23.0 GPM standard, 30.5 GPM high flow. GPM stands for gallons per minute. It tells you how much hydraulic oil (the fluid that powers attachments) the machine can push out. More GPM means a tool spins or digs faster. High flow is a factory option that pushes extra oil. On the T740, that extra oil is just enough to run our forestry mulcher — and no more.

Runs on standard flow (23.0 GPM)

• Pallet forks, rock bucket, and snow pusher — these don't use hydraulics. They bolt straight on.
• Root grapple, needs 12–25 GPM — yes, this machine runs it.
• Auger drive, needs 10–25 GPM — yes. No case drain needed — it runs a gear motor, not a piston motor.
• Backhoe, needs 10–25 GPM — yes.
• Concrete mixer, needs 10–25 GPM — yes.
• Snow plough, needs 10–25 GPM — yes.
• Trencher, needs 16–30 GPM — yes. Needs a case drain too.
• Brush cutter, needs 17–30 GPM — yes.
• Stump grinder, needs 18–35 GPM — yes. Needs a case drain too.

Needs high flow (30.5 GPM)

• Forestry mulcher, needs 30–45 GPM — yes, but just barely. 30.5 clears the 30 GPM minimum by half a gallon. Don't expect extra power in reserve.

Watch for too much flow

• Don't run the trencher on high flow. It tops out at 30 GPM. Your high flow sends 30.5 — over the line. Too much oil spins the motor faster than it was built for, which wears it out fast.
• Same problem for the brush cutter (tops out at 30 GPM) and the root grapple (tops out at 25 GPM). Run all three on standard flow, not high flow.
• Too much flow breaks attachments just like too little does. Most guides never mention it.

How much weight it can lift

Lift capacity, also called ROC (rated operating capacity), is the safe weight limit the manufacturer sets for the machine. Go over it and the machine gets tippy and unsafe. It isn't just a suggestion.

The Bobcat T740 has an ROC of 3,200 lb. Our rock bucket needs a machine rated at 2,000 lb ROC or higher. The T740 clears that by 1,200 lb — a comfortable, safe margin.

How attachments mount

The T740 uses the Universal Skid Steer quick-attach plate — Bobcat calls its own version Bob-Tach. This is the same style of mount used by full-size skid steers and track loaders across almost every brand. The T740 is a full-size machine, not a mini, so this is the plate you'll be ordering attachments for.
