Will this fit your machine?

You need 10 to 25 GPM. GPM means gallons per minute. It's how much hydraulic fluid your machine can push out to run an attachment. This is the widest flow range we sell. If your machine has auxiliary hydraulics at all — the extra hydraulic hookups on your loader arm — this auger will almost always run.

Check your machine

• Bobcat T740, 23 GPM standard: Yes.
• Kubota SVL75-3, 19.2 GPM standard: Yes.
• CAT 259D3, 20.0 GPM standard: Yes.
• Older or smaller machines, 12 to 16 GPM: Yes. It spins slower. It drills the same size hole.
• High-flow machines above 25 GPM: Yes, but switch to standard-flow mode first. That means turning down how much fluid the machine sends out. Don't run this auger on full high-flow power.

Where to find your GPM number

Don't guess from the machine's size. Check your operator's manual first — look under "hydraulic specifications" or "auxiliary hydraulics." Most machines also carry a data plate with the flow rating stamped on it, usually near the operator's seat or on the loader arm itself. Can't find either? Look up your exact model number on the manufacturer's website, or call your dealer with your serial number — they can read the flow spec off that in a minute.

Case drain

You do not need a case drain. A case drain is an extra hydraulic line. Some attachments use it to send leaked fluid straight back to the tank. This auger uses a gear motor, so it skips that step. It's one of the few attachments here where you don't have to check for one at all.

What happens if you get the flow wrong

Too little flow, and the auger just turns slower — it labors in tough dirt and the bit can bind instead of cutting clean. Too much flow — running this on full high-flow power instead of switching down to standard first — spins the gear motor faster than it's built for. That means heat, faster wear, and a shorter motor life, not more drilling power. Neither mistake breaks the drive on the spot. Both mistakes shorten how long it lasts.

The part that really matters: the bit

The drive unit almost never fails on the job. The bit — the drilling tool on the end — is what makes or breaks the job. Most sellers hand you a drive and let you guess at the bit. We won't.

• Dirt or loam: a standard bit works, any size in our range.
• Clay: use a bit with fewer, bigger teeth. A regular bit packs full of clay and climbs back out of the hole.
• Rock or frozen ground: use a rock auger bit. A dirt bit in rock is the top reason people say "this auger is junk." It's really just the wrong bit.

Don't buy this one if

• Your machine has no auxiliary hydraulics. Without them, there's no way to run this auger. There's no manual version.
• You only need to drill two holes, one time. Rent an auger instead. We'd rather tell you that now than sell you a drive that sits in your barn.
• You think it will pull itself back out of clay. It won't. Nothing does. Plan on backing it out slowly, a little at a time.
