CAT 299D2 XHP — 23.0 GPM standard, 40.0 GPM high flow, 4,061 psi. GPM means gallons of hydraulic oil per minute — what powers an attachment. On this machine, the pressure number matters more than the flow number, and it's the one almost nobody checks.

The pressure warning — read this before you order anything

• The XHP circuit on this machine runs at 4,061 psi. Psi measures how hard the oil pushes, not how much of it flows — that's the GPM number above.
• A lot of attachments are only built for around 3,500 psi.
• You can match the flow perfectly and still push an attachment past what its pressure rating allows. That's a real way to wreck a motor even when the GPM looks fine.
• Send us the attachment you're considering and we'll check its pressure rating, not just its GPM.

Watch for too much flow

At 40 GPM, only the mulcher belongs on your high flow circuit. Everything else on this list tops out at 25, 30, or 35 GPM — run those on standard flow.

How much weight it can lift

The 299D2 XHP's rated operating capacity — its safe working load, at the 50% rating — is 4,725 lb. Operating weight is 11,608 lb.

Our rock bucket needs at least 2,000 lb of lift capacity. This machine clears that with well over 2,000 lb to spare. Not a concern.

How it hooks up to attachments

The 299D2 XHP uses the standard universal quick-attach plate — the same one used by Bobcat, Case, Deere, and most other brands. If an attachment fits one of those, it fits this machine too.
