Attachments for a John Deere 331G

John Deere 331G — 23.5 GPM standard, 36.5 GPM high flow. GPM means gallons of hydraulic oil per minute — it's what powers an attachment. This machine has a big gap between its two settings, so picking the right one matters more here than on most machines.

Runs on standard flow (23.5 GPM)

• Pallet forks, rock bucket, snow pusher — no hydraulics needed. They just bolt on.
• Root grapple, 12–25 GPM — yes.
• Auger drive, 10–25 GPM — yes. No case drain needed — it runs a gear motor, not a piston motor.
• Backhoe, concrete mixer, snow plough, 10–25 GPM — all yes.
• Trencher, 16–30 GPM — yes. Case drain required.
• Brush cutter, 17–30 GPM — yes.
• Stump grinder, 18–35 GPM — yes. Case drain required.

Needs high flow (36.5 GPM)

• Forestry mulcher, 30–45 GPM — yes, with room to spare.

Watch for too much flow

• The trencher and brush cutter top out at 30 GPM. The stump grinder tops out at 35.
• Your high flow setting is 36.5 GPM — over all three. Run them on standard flow instead.
• Pushing a 30 GPM motor to 36.5 GPM doesn't help it. It spins the motor too fast and cooks the oil. The attachment fails quietly, months later, and gets blamed on the operator.

How much weight it can lift

The 331G's rated operating capacity — its safe working load — is 3,100 lb. Tipping load, the point where the front end starts to come up if you keep loading it, is 8,857 lb.

Our rock bucket needs at least 2,000 lb of lift capacity. The 331G clears that by 1,100 lb. No concern here.

How it hooks up to attachments

The 331G uses the standard universal quick-attach plate — the same one used by Bobcat, Case, Caterpillar, and most other brands. Deere's tractor front loaders use a different plate, called JDQA. This machine isn't one of those. The 331G is a skid steer-style compact track loader, and it runs the same universal plate as everyone else in this catalogue.
